RETURN TO NEWS

NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2008
This is the first of what we plan to be a series of regular newsletters to keep family and friends who are not resident with us here on the beautiful Costa Calida up to date with our news.

God has truly blessed us over the past months as we have seen steady growth in our numbers and experienced wonderful events such as M.O.V.E. (The Men Of Vision Espana conference), the Helen Shapiro Gospel Outreach, the fund raising dinner dance for the orphanages in Cambodia and Thailand and baptism services on Bolnuevo beach.

The presence of the Lord has been very real at our Sunday morning services and our bible studies and prayer time. On many occasions Pastor Andrew has abandoned the planned format for our meetings to follow the Holy Spirit's direction. And what wonderful rewards it has brought.

We also continue to enjoy fellowship over our ladies' and men’s breakfasts on the first Saturday of each month, and have heard many inspiring and moving testimonies from a wide variety of speakers.

On a more practical note, for those of you who know our building, we now have the use of the apartment adjoining our original room which gives us facilities for a crčche, a coffee bar, an extra toilet and a quiet room for prayer or counselling. We have also had to change the venue for our bible studies and prayer time from home meetings to The Tea Pot (a local café) and finally to church, as our numbers have grown.

One major item of news is that plans are well advanced for the planting of a second Victory Church in Spain at Huercal Overa, further down the coast in Almeria province. We have had the privilege and pleasure of having two very experienced Christian leaders from this area in the form of Trevor and Mike with us for the last eight months, they along with their wives and friends have been travelling a considerable distance to be with us and Pastor Andrew feels the time is right to establish a second church and so enable us to reach more people with the word of God. Pastor Andrew has always preached that, of course, we want to see our numbers grow, but we must hold on to people lightly as they leave to spread His good news further afield.

A new ministry for our ladies is about to hold it’s first conference at the end of September. Entitled L.O.V.E (Ladies Of Victory Espana) this series of meetings, spread over a weekend, is intended to provide fellowship for the ladies with the opportunity to enjoy a great time of praise and worship and to hear from gifted guest speakers.

We have received the news from Bill and Jean in Ireland that two of their three sons have been baptised this year, Joel in Cork and Caleb in the much warmer waters of Florida. We pray God’s blessing on them as they continue to grow in their walk with the Lord.

Over the summer months we have been blessed to welcome our larger than life American brother Randy into our fellowship, he and his wife Karen (who joined him in July) have had a wonderful spiritual input into our meetings, and we thank God for placing them in our path. We have just received the news that Randy has had his contract to work in this area (building golf courses) extended for another month, so we can look forward to benefiting from their ministry for a little while longer.

On Thursday 11th. September eleven of our men travelled to Guadix near Granada to meet and enjoy a ‘menu del dia’ with brothers from near Malaga who are interested in getting involved with M.O.V.E. and possibly attending our conference next year. We pray that this is just the start of a wonderful time of fellowship amongst men of God in this area and further afield.

Sunday 14th. September saw a very special service. We were blessed by many visitors, some old friends and some new faces who joined us to hear Beryl give her testimony and tell of her healings and of how the Lord had brought Trevor and Sue into her life and so led her to our fellowship. During our time of prayer Pat felt called to pray specifically for someone in the congregation who was experiencing deep loneliness and so was able to pray for them individually and offer comfort and reassurance. We also prayed for Randy and Karen who were away ministering in Portugal.

As Patrick led praise and worship he felt moved to change his planned choice of music as he continued the theme of our prayer time and led us beautifully into a wonderful time of song and rejoicing. Rachael Smith then brought a prophecy for the church that she had been given by the Lord. She said that God does not want us to do church our way, He wants us to do it His way, and used the African Baobab Tree to illustrate a lot of what she said. Read the whole prophecy on our web page.

Our Bible study and prayer time on Wednesday 17th. was replaced by a special night of praise and worship led by New York based Johnny Juarez. Johnny, who was ending a tour of Spain and Portugal, blessed us all with his songs and testimony. He involved the crowded room in his lively music and used video clips to illustrate his story. A wonderful evening was enjoyed by everyone there.

At the end of November Cliff and Belinda are off to Thailand and Cambodia with Dot Newett, founder of Orchid Ministries, where they will be working amongst the children rescued from paedophilia and forced military service. No doubt this is going to be a life changing experience for them all, and the experiences they bring back will be a blessing to our fellowship.

In mid November a group of our men will be travelling to Rugeley in Staffordshire to attend a conference hosted by VCI. UK. The main speaker will be Al Purvis who is VCI’s representative in Thailand and the theme for the conference will be ‘When God Calls’. For further information please telephone Dave Whitefoot (after 5 pm) on (0044) 01782 750980.

One major event to look out for next year is our M.O.V.E. conference to be held in the La Cumbre Hotel, Puerto Mazarron on 14th. March 2009. The theme will be ‘Sons Not Soldiers’ our guest speaker is Stephen Derbyshire, our worship leader Dave Billborough and, giving his testimony, will be our guest Bill Legend, former drummer with TRex. For more details please visit the MOVE web site or contact Duncan by phone (0034) 607382 033.

We greatly value the love and fellowship we share with those who aren’t able to be with us on a permanent basis and pray for you often.

God bless you all.
